  • Hardware: plug-and-play intelligent devices with integrated self-monitoring and diagnostics
    • intelligence used to collect and filter monitoring data
    • networked to create a scalable shared-nothing cluster
  • Software: toolkit that allows programmers to easily define the system’s adaptive behavior
    • provides abstractions for manipulating and reacting to monitoring data
